Employment

Straight talk from the start: The communities that comprise the Eastern Sierra can be a tricky place to find employment. While there are always entry level jobs in retail, housekeeping, lodging, dining, and tourism, high-paying positions that provide a living wage and benefits are difficult to find.

Recreation areas, including June Mountain and Mammoth Mountain, provide a wide offering of seasonal and year round employment positions. Restaurants, hotels, stores and Mammoth Hospital are always hiring. Professional builders, plumbers, contractors, and electricians are always in high demand throughout the region.

With increased work-at-home opportunities, many have relocated to the Eastern Sierra communities to take advantage of living and working in a more remote location.

While employment opportunities that provide benefits and a living wage are the exception rather than the rule, opportunities to volunteer at any number of nonprofit and charitable organizations abound. Many retirees who relocate to the region are able to keep themselves plenty busy with a wide range of meaningful volunteer work.
